OH MY GOD.
I HATE THIS GAME SO MUCH. I HATE IT SO MUCH I MIGHT ACTUALLY LIKE IT. AAUUUUGGGHHHHHHH. DX So, last Friday, ~SharpieFlavored, *L16, and I hung out and played Super Smash Brothers: Brawl. It was epic, to say the least, and, at the end of our playdate, *L16 let me borrow ICO, the first game released in the Shadow of the Colossus ICO Last Guardian series. I let her borrow my precious but little-known Sphinx and the Cursed Mummy in return. Perhaps some art of it will come from her ? One can only hope. Now, ICO came out before Shadow of the Colossus, but chronologically, ICO follows after Shadow of the Colossus. Ico is a descendant of Wander and Mono [who had creepy incestuous Ralph Fiennes babies], and the Dark Queen, who presides over the castle, is some kind of convoluted form of Dormin who was definitely a guy which means either Dormin is a trannie making him the Dark Queen or the Dark Queen is a hermaphrodite. It certainly makes one wonder. Wander? Haaah. So I start playing it. The character is cute, a lot cuter than he is on the cover of the box, which is probably what made me keep putting the damn game back for years and years. That, and for some reason I was under the impression that it was rated [M]. So when *L16 recommended Shadow of the Colossus and I played it and loved it and beat it and played it again on hard mode and loved it even more and beat it again, I desperately needed something else to play hopefully something similar. *L16 recommended ICO, and I just had to play it. And my god. I freaking hate this game. Dont get me wrong. Its got a great story, and the characters are really intriguing. But my god. I just want to throw my controller at the screen every time I attempt to use the camera. Or lack thereof. Or as good as being a lack thereof. What is this crap? This isnt a camera. This is a seizure. And poor Yorda, as *L16 so astutely pointed out, doesnt even want to be there. She was safe in her little cage, and then along comes Ico, who thinks he knows best by going and rescuing her. No monsters could get her in her cage, and now shadow creatures pop up and grab her at every turn. For all he knows, she could have been telling him to go jump off a cliff in the Ancient Language before he grabbed her by the hand and started yanking her around behind him. And jeez, either this girl is totally spaced out, or her mother put her on too much damn Ritalin. Ico takes a flying leap and falls, screaming, to his death. Meanwhile, Yorda turns and stares blankly into space. Aaannnnddd Im out of things to say. -long pause- Gonna beat this game. No matter how up the wall it drives me. ICO © Sony Entertainment |

I don't know why, but I REALLY like how you did Yorda.
Maybe it's the coloring...well, either way, I REALLY like her.

I thought you would like this game! Now I feel like a FAILURE! AGGHHHHH! The camera never really bothered me; in fact, it allowed me to get a good feel for the area I was running around in, solving the "puzzle" in. Plus, it was easy to see where the shadows were popping up, 'specially, when you called Yorda if she were to be ever taken away (the camera would zoom right after her).
I never viewed the Queen as another form of Dormin, but as a witch collecting the vestiges of Dormin through the sacrificed cursed boys. Storing his essence in those sarcophagi. You'll see why I think this when you return to the room of sarcophagi just before defeating the Queen. Shadows that are in the shape of the Boy flit across the room, surprisingly not malevolent, almost curious. Kinda felt bad chasing them around and hitting them with the sacred sword.
Anyways, this queen...in her perusal of "collecting" Dormin, in a sense gets some of his power...using it for things such as keeping the castle standing, creating her shadow guard (as the shadows were standing around Wander in the forbidden land), and leeching off of Yorda, using her body as the next carrier of her essence, in effort to continue on collecting. Yorda *spoiler* is described by the Queen as this carrier, the vehicle for the Queen's continued existence, when the Boy confronts her in the thrown room. The Queen is basically dying, and seeks immortality through this daughter of hers.
The thing to question is why the Queen would've let the boy escape? Maybe Yorda was a more pressing matter, and the Queen could've just waited for the next incarnation of the curse in some other village boy.
BUT THIS IS JUST MY THEORY.

It's a wonderful game, with its story and characters.
It's the CAMERA I hate. AUUUGGGHHHH.
D:<
But I'm spoiled, so that might be the problem.
I'm used to having great cameras, like in Sphinx, or KHII.
So when it seems like a step backwards, it irks me.
The way they did the camera makes the game play out like a movie, rather than like a game.
And while that's really interesting, it's just not... helpful.
If you see what I mean.
S:
That's... actually a really interesting theory.
Because when the Dark Queen was all "This is my daughter..."
The first thing I thought was, Wait, that means someone would have had to have made babies with her!
...Which was a distressing thought.
Glad to know they're not actually genetically related.
I could understand that they were "returning" the curse to the palace, but that was why I thought she "was" Dormin.
Kind-of like they were "returning" Dormin, so that he would no longer curse them.
But that didn't make any sense, because the Dormin... gene... has been stretched so thin over the countless generations that there's no possible way to collect them ALL.
But like I said, I'm going to play it all the way through.
Hopefully I will have gotten used to the camera by then.
I'm at the point where I get the weapon upgrade to the sword.
With any luck, that will make the shadow soldiers a LOT easier to ward off.
Because it gets tiresome, getting constantly pimp-slapped out of the way.
